From 21–25 April 2025, LFA Studio and Ngee Koon were honoured to represent Singapore in a fifteen-member industry mission to Chengdu and Chongqing, led by Singapore Furniture Industries Association (SFIC) President Joshua Koh. The delegation signed a landmark MOU with the Chengdu Furniture Chamber of Commerce, advancing cross-border partnerships for sustainable growth and innovation.

The five-day journey provided exceptional access to China’s leading manufacturers, each pushing the boundaries of precision, sustainability, and speed. 

 

Key discoveries and firsthand experiences in Chengdu included:

  • AI-driven smart factories merging automation and craftsmanship.
  • Modular systems crafted from traceable, sustainably sourced wood, enabling transparency across the value chain.
  • Custom interiors powered by digital twin technology and CNC automation.
  • Insights into cutting-edge commercial real estate and policies supporting foreign brands at TaiKoo Li and Chengdu International Finance Square (IFS).

In Chongqing, we witnessed how tradition meets technology:

  • Fusion of heritage craftsmanship and robotics for next-generation furniture.
  • IoT-enabled solutions for office and healthcare, redefining how spaces support wellbeing.
  • Application of aerospace aluminum to create durable, eco-friendly furniture frames.
  • Modular, tech-integrated designs tailored for modern living, including voice control and health tracking features.

Closing Reflections

The mission’s final day highlighted artistry and innovation in action—from precision joinery to ergonomic chair design, and future-ready educational spaces. Throughout, Singapore’s delegation benefited from invaluable support and sharing by SFIC, Enterprise Singapore, and the Chinese hosts.
